About this service

How psychoeducational and psychiatry assessments work at IPC

A combined assessment that's hard to find elsewhere

Through our partnership with Edcommodate, IPC offers combined psychoeducational and psychiatric assessments — a service that is difficult to find elsewhere in Canada, and nearly impossible to access through public waitlists. This integrated approach is ideal for individuals ages 8 to 50 years old, such as young students, teens, or adults in academic settings, and individuals seeking clarity on learning difficulties alongside a full psychiatric evaluation.

What the assessment evaluates

A comprehensive psychoeducational assessment evaluates cognitive abilities, academic skills, and executive functions. It uses a variety of tools, including standardized tests, achievement tests, and structured clinical interviews, to build a detailed learning profile and identify areas of need. The psychiatric component evaluates co-occurring mental health conditions that may affect academic functioning and daily life. Together, these components produce a report that captures both the cognitive and emotional dimensions of an individual's experience.

How the report supports accommodations and treatment

The combined written report can be submitted to schools, school boards, and employers for accommodation planning, such as documentation for an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Our integrated model means the psychoeducational testing and psychiatric evaluation inform each other, resulting in more accurate diagnoses and more actionable recommendations inclusive of medication plans where appropriate.
